Laser Hair Removal is a medical procedure that uses a concentrated beam of light (laser) to remove unwanted hair. At Riverside we use a medical grade laser which offers effective and safe permanent hair reduction. During laser hair removal, a laser emits a light that is absorbed by the pigment in the hair. The light energy converts to heat which then damages the bulb of the hair follicle. This damage inhibits or delays future hair growth. Multiple laser treatments are required for initial hair removal (approx 6-8 treatments at intervals of 4-6 weeks, depending on the area). Maintenance treatments may be required. Laser is most effective on light skin and dark hair, however it can be successfully used on all skin types. Laser hair removal is less effective on hair colours that don’t absorb light well, such as grey, red, blond and white. Preparation prior to treatment includes avoiding UV exposure, self tanners, other hair removal methods that remove the follicle from the root ie waxing, plucking and electrolysis. Shave the area to be treated 2-4 days before treatment.
